  • Clayton teen charged with alleged theft of gun

  • A Clayton teen was arrested Sunday on multiple charges following the alleged theft of a handgun.
    On Aug. 22 Clayton Police responded to the 200 block of Preston Lane in Clayton in reference to a burglary that occurred that resulted in the alleged theft of a handgun. Upon speaking with the owner of the residence, police said the officer was able to get information on a possible suspect that lived in the area.
    On Aug. 24, officers from the Clayton Police Department located the alleged suspect and brought the individual in for questioning. During the interview, the suspect admitted that on July 30 he entered the victim’s residence and stole the firearm from an upstairs bedroom. The suspect also admitted that he fired the handgun on two different occasions in the wooded area located next to the housing development.
    When asked by the officers about the whereabouts of the firearm, police said the suspect stated he hid it in the wooded area next to the development. Upon searching the area, the officers were able to locate the firearm.
    The 15-year-old male juvenile from Clayton was arrested for theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and second-degree burglary.
