Painted Stave Distilling will be one of seven taste-makers honored at this year's 23rd Annual Celebration of Tourism in Kent County.

Painted Stave Distilling will be honored at the 23rd Annual Celebration of Tourism in Kent County with the “Tourism Attraction of the Year Award.” The event highlights the efforts of many businesses, organizations and individuals focused on raising awareness about events in Kent County as well as those providing opportunities for tourism.

Seven awards will be presented, including “Tourism Person of the Year,” which is not revealed until the event. Other awards included the “Partner of the Year” (Delaware Tourism Office), “Volunteers of the Year” (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Kent County), “Hotel Partners of the Year” (Holiday Inn Express/Dover and Mainstay Suites) and “Media Partner of the Year” (Delmarva Broadcasting).

“This is our yearly opportunity to recognize those businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the benefit of tourism in Kent County,” said Kent County Tourism Executive Director Cindy Small.

Painted Stave's award comes just in time for its one year anniversary. During that year, co-owners Ron Gomes and Mike Rasmussen have experienced rapid growth and notoriety throughout the region and beyond.

The distillery's signature gin, Candy Manor Gin, won a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition earlier this year. The guys hosted two up-and-coming Firefly Music Festival artists for a standing-room only acoustic show and have gotten distribution requests from restaurants and stores throughout the region. The distillery also regularly plays host for tours, tastings and bottling parties.

Kent County Tourism encourages the public to attend the celebration, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Duncan Center. Tickets are $35 per person or $265 for a table of eight. The event will include a full buffet luncheon with a selection of free local wines and beers, a signature dessert and a silent auction featuring overnight stays, restaurant gift certificates and more.
