Smyrna Opera House is hosting a free “Happy Hour Season Preview Party” tonight, Friday, Jan. 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
A variety of performances will be given from selected shows including the Classical Piano Series, the play “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” written by Nora and Delia Ephron, and the Dessert Theater performance of “Lend Me A Tenor.” The evening will also include videos on the large projector screen to showcase the band “On The Edge” which will perform at the 13th Annual Arts Cotillion Feb. 11, and the band “Judy Sings The Blues” which will perform a concert Feb. 25.
Opera House programs committee members will talk about the upcoming events for the entire family during the winter/spring season.
Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
Opera House board member and programs committee chair Jim Hawkins said the idea to have a preview party before each new season was the result of discussions about a year ago by the programs committee about the best way to get the word out about events.
“Having a party is not only more fun than sending a brochure, it also gives people more information,” Hawkins said. “Plus, the party is during happy hour, so people can get a drink from the cash bar, relax, find out what musical and theatrical acts to look forward to, and after a quick hour, go out to eat at one of Smyrna's great restaurants.”
He said Friday’s event is also the perfect way for guests to “sample” the Opera House for the first time.
“I love introducing people to the Smyrna Opera House, and the season preview party is a great time to come because it’s free,” Hawkins said. “Not only is the space beautiful, the Smyrna Opera House also has a fascinating history stretching back to 1870, a vibrant present and an exciting future."
Although the preview party is free, reservations are encouraged for the caterer and to help the organizers estimate the number of tables and chairs needed. To RSVP, call (302) 653-4236 or e-mail email@example.com.
