The curtain opens on the 2008-09 Smyrna Opera House season this Sunday, September 7 with the first show in the fall jazz series which also features concerts on October 12 and November 8.

September
• Sunday, September 7 at 3 p.m., “Beach Jazz V.” Enjoy contemporary jazz music in an intimate setting. Mingle with the artists afterwards at a buffet dinner. Tickets available for show only or show plus dinner. Sponsored by Noteworthy Jazz.
• Sunday, September 28 at 3 p.m., “Duets." Featuring Eliezer Gutman on violin and Lotus Chang on piano, this duo will delight audiences with classical selections from Mozart to Brahms and beyond.
October
• Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m., “Dick Morgan Quartet.” If you think the old Oscar Peterson Trio of the 1950s was the epitome of small-jazz group, with its emphasis on down home, blues-based swing, razor-sharp coordination between players and solos that build suspense to ecstatic crescendos, then you’ll love this quartet. • Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m., “John Carty Duo.” One of Ireland’s most respected and influential multi-instrumentalists, enjoy John Carty’s versatility and dynamic style of fiddle, banjo and flute-playing in this special performance.

• Sunday, November 8 at 3 p.m., “Sue Matthews Sings Ella.” Bringing to life the lyrics of Ella Fitzgerald, Sue Matthews will captivate audiences and critics alike with her emotionally nuanced delivery. Sponsored by Noteworthy Jazz.

• Friday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m., “CoroAllegro.” Start the holiday season with a yuletide concert by one of Delaware’s premier choirs.
• Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m., “The Brandywiners Chorale.” Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, The Brandywiners Chorale will whisk you away from the hustle and bustle with songs from the holidays.
• Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m., “A Christmas Carol.” Featuring Joe Plummer Sr. and Joe Plummer Jr., “The Two Joe Plummers” will delight audiences young and old alike with their rendition of this timeless classic.
