Auditions will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. for the "Smyrna's Got Voice II" singing contest at the Smyrna Opera House.
“This is a great opportunity for those individuals who have singing talent to showcase their vocal chops," said David Keller, the Opera House Executive Director. "We are basing our event on the hugely popular ‘American Idol’ TV show and are hoping to create even more buzz than last year’s premiere Smyrna's Got Voice competition.”
All auditioners should prepare a song lasting no longer than two minutes. All songs must be sung a cappella.
Auditions are open to individuals of any age.
The initial auditions on Feb. 20 will be juried by three judges, and the top 12 contestants will compete on opening night, Saturday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. Linda Kurtz, a news anchor and reporter from WMDT in Salisbury, Maryland, will serve as the opening night emcee.
Audience members will play a key role in the event as they will decide who moves on to the next round.
The contestants will be trimmed to eight for the April 10 show. The finale, scheduled for May 8, will feature the top four singers. Look for a surprise guest appearance by last year’s winner DJ Evins who is from Magnolia.
The finale will also feature Michael Waite from 99.5 WJBR as emcee with the contestants competing for cash prizes.
At every performance a “celebrity” judge will have an opportunity to perform. “Celebrity” judges include the hugely popular Mario Rocco on March 13 and Paul Kranz on April 10.

The judges’ decisions are final. The competition is not open to Opera House employees and Board members or their immediate relatives.
