Mel is back

It’s hard to believe, but we haven’t seen Mel Gibson in a starring acting role since 2002 (“Signs”), but he’s back in “Edge of Darkness.” The movie is rated R, so it’s not for the whole family, but adults should get a kick out of this action flick. The other movie opening in wide release this week is “When in Rome,” starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel. Girls should especially like this movie, but heed the PG-13 rating.

Winter X Games lift off

It’s only a couple weeks until the Winter Olympics kick off, and to get you in the mood, check out the Winter X Games. The ESPN games include the “extreme” winter sports, but more than a few Olympians will be participating in these games. The games take place Thursday to Sunday and will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2. For more information, see espn.go.com/action/xgames/winter/2010/.

Art for heart’s sake

Sunday is Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, an annual holiday designed to generate appreciation for art and its effects on you. We suggest heading to an art gallery or art exhibit (and feel free to celebrate Art Day on Saturday or Friday), then take some time to create your own inspiring art. If you’re not confident in your talents, consider signing up for a beginner’s art class.

Grammy Awards Sunday

Awards season continues this week with the Grammy Awards, which will air at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday on CBS. The Grammy’s are one of the most-watched awards shows of the year, so there will be plenty of eye-candy during the telecast. And maybe if Taylor Swift beats Beyonce for an award, Kanye will act up again and entertain us even more. For nominees, news and more, head to the official website, www.grammy.com.

NFL all-star game

If you’re like us, the weekend before the Super Bowl is always tedious – there’s no pro football to watch. But the NFL has switched the Pro Bowl to this week, so this year you’re in luck. The all-star game kicks off Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. For lineups, news and more, head to www.nfl.com.
