DJ Evins of Magnolia won first place in the "Smyrna's Got Voice" singing contest Saturday at the Smyrna Opera House.
The event began with 12 contestants who were selected after auditions. In performances in March and April, the field was narrowed to eight and then four before Saturday's finale, with the audiences determining the winners.
The top four were Evins, first place; Kathy DeLong of Dover, second place; Kelle Washington of Dover, third place, and Katie Loftus of Townsend, fourth place.
Each contestant sang two selections. After each performance a panel of three judges provided constructive criticism and helpful hints. Judges for the final round included Groome Mears III, Irv Rothenberg, and Glenn Townsend.
Michael Waite from 99.5 WJBR-FM served as the emcee for the finale.
