Members of the Air Force and civilians alike will all be getting fired up this weekend for the 2009 Dover Air Force Base Open House and Air Show. Dover Air Force Base on Route 113 (Bay Road) will open its gates to the public at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21.

The open house is free and will feature such flying acts as the Air Force Thunderbirds, Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute team and Navy Tactical Demonstration Team.

Parking for the Dover Air Force Base Open House will be at Bergold Farms on Route 9, across from the Air Mobility Command Museum entrance. Shuttles will run from the Bergold Farms parking lot to the main Open House entrance. A shuttle will also run from Eagle Heights Housing Area to the Open House.

All visitors will be searched prior to entering the base.

The following items are prohibited: pets (with the exception of seeing eye dogs), weapons, including guns, knives or pepper spray; fireworks, alcohol, glass bottles, coolers, backpacks, large camera bags, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards and in-line skates.

Strollers, diaper bags, small purses, wheelchairs, and electric scooters are allowed.

Organizers suggest those attending wear sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes, and bring beach blankets and lawn chairs.

The Delaware Department of Transportation will have traffic information for the open house available on 1380 AM.
