Treadz-N-Threadz is teaming up with mentalist/illusionist Dan Cain of Smyrna in what will literally be a “headline” charity event on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
Cain has made two headline predictions -- one for the Sept. 8 issue of the Smyrna/Clayton Sun-Times and another for the Sept. 9 issue of the Delaware State News.
The predictions were sealed in an envelope Aug. 24 and then locked in a clear plexiglass box with a new padlocked opened from its package by Smyrna Police Capt. Wilbert Bordley. Then Capt. Bordley kept the keys and wrapped the box in masking tape. The tape was signed by several witnesses including Capt. Bordley, Ben Mace from the Sun-Times, Dave Chambers of the State News, and Victoria Galloway of Smyrna.
The box was hung in the window of Treadz-N-Threadz where it will be on display until the predictions are unlocked and revealed at the Sept. 9 fundraiser.
The event will include magic by Cain, music, raffles, and a cookout with hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken wings, chips, and sodas on sale -- all to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The whole idea started when Cain talked to his friend, Mike Wescott, co-owner of Treadz-N-Threadz.
“Dan told me he wanted to do a prediction but he needed a public place where he could display it,” Wescott explained. “I said, ‘I work at a bike shop right on the highway.’ It’s a great idea, all for charity, and I hope it works. I’m pulling for Dan.”
Cain said he was thankful to Wescott and co-owner Brandon Stombaugh for providing this opportunity.
“I love doing mentalism and magic, and what better place to do it than at an event like this that’s going to help the children’s hospital,” said Cain. “I like the story of (hospital founder) Danny Thomas and what he did.”
Cain said he’s excited and anxious about the big day.
“When I meditate, I see images, not necessarily words, and a picture’s worth a thousand words,” he said. “You can interpret an image any number of ways. Hopefully the way I interpret the images I saw will be the way the editors or reporters write it in their headlines.”
