Smyrna School District continues renovations throughout schools

The Smyrna School District is undergoing updates and renovations at nearly every building in the district. The major renovation is at Smyrna High School where an addition is being erected. There are also smaller projects going on at three of the four elementary schools and the intermediate school.

Two teens arrested after attempted burglary in Smyrna

Smyrna Police arrested two teens following an attempted burglary at Buck Algonquin in Smyrna on June 30. Warrants were obtained for two 14-year-old males, one residing in the unit block of South Union Street in Smyrna, and the other in the 3300 block of Arthursville Road, Hartly. Both teens have been arrested and charged with numerous offenses of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and conspiracy.

Three teens arrested for trespassing at Lake Como

On July 5, Smyrna Police charged three juveniles with trespassing and disorderly conduct for swimming across the lake and onto the property of homeowners surrounding the lake.

At last, Tony DeFeo appointed to Smyrna Council

The fifth time was a charm for Tony DeFeo. After two months of wrestling with the issue, Smyrna Town Council voted 5-1 on Monday night to appoint DeFeo to the vacant seat on council. At each of the previous four meetings of council, DeFeo was nominated for this open seat, but the motion failed each time, usually by 3-3 votes, and the seat remained vacant. But on Monday night, the stalemate ended.
