On Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m., the Smyrna Opera House will welcome the HildaMan Chorale to its historic stage.
Margaret Sharpe, a performer with the group, said, “The HildaMan Chorale is anxiously anticipating its concert visit to the Smyrna Opera House...not only because of the historical significance of the venue but for the acoustics and positive community response that Smyrna and surrounding communities impose on artistic offerings at the Opera House.”
The performance will be in the spirit of Black History Month, featuring the rich heritage of music from the era of slavery and the post Civil War period.
“To help celebrate Black History Month, we are proud to present the HildaMan Chorale from Wilmington,” said David Keller, the Opera House Executive Director. “I am really anxious to hear this group perform. Should be an inspirational concert to close out the month.”
About HildaMan Chorale
The HildaMan Chorale is celebrating three decades of entertaining with a diversity of musical offerings, which always include the classic Negro Spiritual. The latter genre represents the reason for the creation of the Chorale by founders, the late Leander Morris and Allen Clark, both former musicians and educators in the Delaware area for more than 40 years. Morris and Clark selected as a secondary objective, the performance of music by local composers.
The name “HildaMan” is in tribute to the founders’ mothers, Hilda Clark and Amanda Morris.
