Oscar-nominated newcomer Carey Mulligan stars in one of this year’s Best Picture nominees, “An Education,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, and Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover.

In 1961, Jenny, a 16-year-old British schoolgirl is on the edge of womanhood. Her father (Alfred Molina) wants her to go to Oxford University, but one rainy day Jenny meets David (Peter Sarsgaard), a charming 30-year-old man who starts to court her. Introducing her to his slick, urban world is exciting but threatens her education. Jenny has to decide if she’s going to pursue higher learning or perhaps a passionate love affair.

The screenplay is based on a memoir by journalist Lynn Barber, and was written for the screen by novelist Nick Hornby (“About a Boy,” “High Fidelity”).

IF YOU GO
“An Education” runs 1:35 and is rated PG-13 for sexual content and smoking.

Tickets are $8, $6 for students, seniors 65 and older, and military, available at the door one hour prior to showtime.

The Schwartz Center is located at 226 S. State Street in downtown Dover.
