Monday, July 26, through Friday, July 30, First Presbyterian Church in Smyrna will offer programs for children ages 4 to 15 at Vacation Bible School. The church is located at 118 West Commerce Street, across from the firehouse. The public is invited.

Walk-in registration on July 26 will start at 5 p.m.

Supper will be served each evening in Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. The rest of the evening’s activities will last from at 6 to 8 p.m.

“Our ‘High Seas Expedition’ program will feature fun and memorable Bible-learning activities for a wide range of ages,” said pastor, the Rev. Dr. John Riley. “Each evening the children will sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, listen to Bible stories, learn Bible verses, and complete craft projects that they can take home with them. The stories this year, from the book of Acts, are about the early church and the apostles Peter and Paul. The verses, which are from the Psalms, tell about God’s power for good in the lives of those who trust in Him. The program shows children how those verses, written centuries before the birth of Christ, applied to the early church and still apply to us today. We expect this event to be very effective!”

Sunday School Superintendent Bill Brockenbrough said that he is looking forward to an exciting time.

“Because of our renovation and construction project, we were unable to hold VBS last year and I think many of us missed it, but now we are back,” said Brockenbrough. “It’s going to be a lot of fun!”

For those unfamiliar with the program, VBS Director Kim Riley explained, “ ‘High Seas Expedition’ has a nautical, or sailing, theme. A lot of people hear ‘high seas’ and think ‘pirates.’ We’ll have a little of that, but it is much more ‘Veggie Tales’ or ‘Gilligan’s Island’ than ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’”
