Property Assessment in School District Over $10 Million
    Total assessment for the Smyrna Special School District has been set at $10,045,056.16 for the year 1959-60, according to announcement made this week by the Smyrna Board of Education. This figure represents an increase of nearly $300,000 over the 1958 total.
    A breakdown of this amount, presented by C. L. Harmonson, the board’s attorney, reveals approximately $8,000,000 of the assessment located in Kent County, with he remaining $2,000,000 being situated in lower New Castle County.

Retiring Teacher Honored
    Members of the faculty of the Smyrna Schools presented gifts at a special ceremony Tuesday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Doris Smith, who is retiring and to Miss Miriam Brown, who has resigned.
    A check from the faculty of the Smyrna Elementary School given to Mrs. Smith was turned back at her request to the Foreign-Exchange Student Fund.

Bible School to Begin June 15
    The Daily Vacation Bible School will be held at St. Peter’s Church on June 15-19 and June 22-26 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day. All children, whether they are members of St. Peter’s Church or not, are welcome to attend….
    The staff includes Mrs. William T. Gathright, Mrs. Charles M. Guy, Mrs. Fred Heinold, Jr., Mrs. James C. Ryan, and Mrs. Charles Lee Sipple, Jr. The Rev. F. Sydney Bancroft, rector, is superintendent, and Mrs. Richard W. Comegys, organist. The daily schedule follows: 9:30 -9:45, roll call in the parish house; 9:45 -10:15, worship service and story telling period in the church; 10:15-10:30, refreshments in the parish house; 10:30-11:30, class periods: project and recreation. If children have no transportation to Bible School, arrangements will be made to bring them….
    One of the highlights will be the school exercises held on Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the church. All members and friends parents and children are invited to attend this special service.

Sandralynn Short Feted By Nurses
    An award for outstanding work in the Smyrna High School Chapter of the Future Nurses’ Club will be presented Sandralynn Short, senior honor graduate, at the annual award assembly this morning in the high school auditorium.
    The gift will be made by Mrs. John J. Lazzeri, president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Kent County Medical Society. Miss Short has been active in the organization of the Smyrna unit, helping to adopt its constitution and bylaws and aiding Mrs. Clara Sparr, the school nurse, in various club activities.
    Miss Short has already been accepted for advanced nursing study beginning with the fall term.

Methodists Map Family Outing
    The annual Methodist family outing of Asbury Methodist Church will be held at Trappe Pond on Sunday, June 28; the rain date, July 12. A vesper service is conducted at sunset, closing the day, with group singing a part of the service. Those attending will take their lunches and ice cream and cake will be furnished by the church. A bus will be at the church at 1 p.m. for those not having transportation.

Anderson Receives Associate’s Degree
    Douglas J. Anderson, of Glenwood Avenue, Smyrna, received the degree of Associate in Arts from Wesley College, Dover, on Sunday, June 7. The husband of Mrs. Elaine G. Anderson, he is a 1951 graduate of Westminster (Md.) High School.
