Busker, Edmonson win council seats; Schuman defeats Attix for treasurer
Glenn W. Busker and Guy M. Edmonson, Jr. gained three-year council seats in Monday’s municipal election.
Busker swept to his first term as a member of Smyrna’s town governing body, polling 234 votes to far outdistance all other candidates.
Edmonson narrowly defeated rival candidate Robert G. Davidson Sr. 189 to 183, a majority of only 6 votes. Stanley M. Middletown trailed with 159.
Although an incumbent for office, Edmonson won his first elected term to the council. He had been appointed to the post two years ago to fill the unexpired term of Alfred E. Mack.
A. Rodney Schuman, incumbent, polled the highest vote total in defeating Kenneth W. Attix for the treasurer’s office, 241 to 151.
Howell H. Barnes, the only candidate to file for the three positions open as assessors, was easily elected.
Only 434 ballots were cast by the potential 1,000 voters residing within the town limits.

Accident analysis reveals highway intersection top traffic villain
An analysis of the annual accident report of the Smyrna Police Department for 1959 reveals some interesting facts, with the intersection of Route 13 and Route 300 still the villain in traffic accidents.
During the year there were 79 accidents reported, 24 of which occurred along Route 13, with 14 of these 24 happening at the intersection of Routes 13 and 300.
The remaining 55 accidents occurring were spread out along Main and Commerce Streets, with Market Street Plaza and Delaware Street having several each.
