Developers break ground on Mitchell Farm

Gulfshore Development Company in conjunction with Devratex Inc. has opened bids on the infrastructure for the Mitchell Farm development’s commercial and industrial portions.
According to Smyrna Town Manager Don Hodge, Vincent L. Rammuno, a Wilmington attorney who is developing the property’s residential area, is also involved in the bidding process. Infrastructure bids include water and sewer lines, well houses, overhead water storage, and pump stations for the entire project....
Actual construction on the shopping center has not begun although contractors have started to cut the main road which will run through the project from Rt. 13 out to Carter Road....
Smyrna Council plans to buy lot for public library parking

The Town of Smyrna plans to buy the property next to the Smyrna Public Library for parking....
The town will tear down the house on the property to make room for parking. The property is adjacent to the existing library parking lot on South Street.
Eagles Chase gets go-ahead for townhouse construction

Although plans for the Eagles Chase development, located in the north part of town, have been conditionally approved by the Smyrna Planning and Zoning Commission, developers have not yet broken ground.
According to assistant town manager Mike Jacobs, the project, which is being developed by Larry N. McAllister, only needs to meet conditions required by various state agencies after which time the town would issue building permits.
The Eagles Chase development is adjacent to the Glenwood development. Construction proposals, designed by McCann Associates, call for 108 townhouse units to be built on 14 acres. The land was originally zoned R-2, but was changed by Smyrna Town Council in March to R-3....
SHS athletes win medals in First State Games
Smyrna High School was well represented by athletes who participated in the First State Games on July 27 and 28 in Wilmington.
In basketball, Smyrna’s Davin Harrison and Steve Pierce Jr. won silver medals after their green team placed second overall. Both Harrison and Pierce were key players on offense and defense and both were starters for this past season’s varsity team at Smyrna.
In girls’ softball, Susan Adams, Kelly McGinnis and Judy Mitchell won bronze medals when their gold team placed third overall in the tournament. During this past spring sports season at Smyrna High, McGinnis played second base and Mitchell was at first base for the varsity squad, while Adams played shortstop for the J.V. team.
During the First State Games, the infield of the gold team resembled a Smyrna High game with Adams, McGinnis and Mitchell all holding down a spot on the field....
