Clayton Council hears of annexation plan

By John Flood

Clayton Town Council saw conceptual plans for a development which could increase the number of homes in Clayton by about one-third.

Council now has to look over the plan and decide whether to bring up the project for an annexation vote. The property of about 55 acres lies outside town limits.

The town charter calls for a referendum of the entire town for an annexation.

Ninety-four townhouses and 37 single family lots were shown on the plan of the development surrounding Wheatley’s Pond.

The development would border Rt. 300, Rt. 94, School Lane, and the Maryland-Delaware Railroad. Entrances to the development would be off School Lane and Rt. 94....

The townhouses would probably start around $90,000. Single family lots of approximately 18,000 sq. ft. would cost about $35,000. Deed restrictions and covenants would force the cost of a house built on these lots to about $125,000 to $150,000....
