Bodley to host ‘Baseball Sunday’

Hal Bodley, Smyrna native and USA Today baseball editor, has been named host of the weekly coast-to-coast “Baseball Sunday” program. Bodley will replace Joe Garagiola, whose last broadcast was July 8.

Bodley is a graduate of the University of Delaware and lives with wife Patricia near Middletown.

Bodley has covered Major League Baseball for more than 30 years and written three baseball books. He has been a regular on “Baseball Sunday” for the past two seasons and in addition to his USA Today duties, also co-hosts for CNN’s “Baseball ’90.”

“Baseball Sunday” is heard on more than 120 radio stations each Sunday night throughout the regular season.

“I’m looking forward to saying ‘hello’ each Sunday to the most important people in baseball – the fans,” said Bodley. “USA Today gives me the opportunity to talk to the players, managers, and front office personnel. ‘Baseball Sunday’ gives me the opportunity to talk to the fans. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Bodley has written three books, including “The Team That Wouldn’t Die” and “Countdown to Cobb,” a chronicle of Pete Rose’s pursuit of Ty Cobb’s all-time career hits record. He has won numerous regional and national writing awards and was named Delaware Sportswriter of the Year twelve times.
