Youth darts in front of car on Main Street
The condition of William D. Burris Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Burris, of Smyrna, remains the same at Delaware Hospital where he was transferred Saturday after he had been taken to Kent General Hospital following an accident.
At 1:05 p.m., Saturday, the boy was playing on the pavement on Main Street between Chestnut and Frazier Street, when he darted around a parked car in front of a car driven by David M. Todd, Jr., of Smyrna, going north on Main Street.
The boy was taken to Kent General Hospital, Dover, in the American Legion ambulance and later was transferred to Delaware Hospital, Wilmington. The Smyrna police were assisted by the State Police in the investigation.

Jones replaces Toman as Civil Air Patrol Commander
The new commander of the Smyrna Cadet Squadron, Delaware Wing, Civil Air Patrol, Wesley Jones, was commissioned at special ceremonies at the New Castle County Airport last week and comes to his new post as a first lieutenant. Col. Louis Spruance Morse, Delaware Wing commander, personally pinned on the shiny silver bar denoting the new acquired rank.
Lt. Jones replaces Capt. Philip Toman as commander of the local unit.
Before assuming his duties as commander, he was a member of the communications squadron and the operator of one of the many Civil Air Patrol radio stations in the Smyrna area.
In June of this year he completed course work under the direction of Maj. Reynolds L. Jones, commander of the Kent Senior Squadron, which will lead to the award of the silver CAP observer wings in the near future.
