An award ceremony for the 14 winners of the Nicholas Lee Guitar Fundraiser will be held Jan. 6.

An award ceremony for the 14 winners of the Nicholas Lee Guitar Fundraiser will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Brandywine Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals New Castle shelter, 600 South St.

Winners and officers involved in a case involving 14 dogs will receive plaques from the BVSPCA issued in honor of their support of the animals’ care and rehabilitation. The winners’ custom guitar, engraved with the name of one of the 14 dogs, will be provided to the selected winners when complete.

Fourteen dogs were emaciated and neglected when rescued by OAW Delaware Animal Services on Nov. 23. DAS Chief Mark Tobin said it was among the worst neglect cases the state’s animal control and cruelty enforcement unit had seen. The dogs were transferred to the BVSPCA, the OAW shelter partner, for long-term treatment and rehabilitation. They are in foster care until they are ready to be adopted.
