Over the past couple of weeks, the Delaware State Police have received reports of thefts from vehicles at over a dozen locations outside the town limits of Smyrna, particularly the Sunnyside Road and Sheridan Lane areas.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said State Police learned that an unknown number of suspects entered at least a dozen different vehicles, stealing items and also rummaging through unsecured vehicles.

The suspects stole items including purses, electronic devices and money.

In most cases the vehicle was parked in the victim’s driveway and was unlocked, Fournier said.

In one case, a suspect was seen on surveillance video.

The Delaware State Police urge people to:

• Lock your car doors and roll up you windows;

• Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle;

• Leave outdoor lights on in the driveway or have security lighting installed;

• Report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately.

Police are asking anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect to call Detective Wright at 302-698-8429. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, on the internet at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword "DSP."
