The Delaware National Guard will host a departure ceremony at 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Smyrna Readiness Center, 103 Artisan Drive, for five soldiers of the 261st Theatre Tactical Signal Brigade deploying to Southwest Asia.
The soldiers are scheduled for a 12-month active-duty tour. After the departure ceremony, the team will report to Fort Bliss, Texas, for pre-mobilization training. The team will be in Texas for four to six weeks before heading into theater.
Once in theater, the team will be assigned to the Army’s Airborne Corps communications section. They will assist in providing and securing reliable communications within central command’s area of responsibility. This includes network operations support, logistical support, movement and procurement operations.
“This team was hand-picked due to their specialized training and experience in the communications field,” said Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, adjutant general, Delaware National Guard. “They are well prepared to support the mission and U.S. interests overseas.”
