Delaware State Police have arrested two men in connection with thefts from vehicles near Smyrna.

Between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2, more than a dozen thefts were reported at locations just outside the town limits of Smyrna, particularly in the Sunnyside Road and Sheridan Lane areas, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

State Police learned that suspects entered at least a dozen different vehicles, stealing items and also rummaging through unsecured vehicles. The suspects stole items ranging from purses to electronic devices to money.

In most of these cases the vehicles were parked in the victims' driveways and were unsecured.

In one case, a surveillance camera captured an image of a suspect.

After investigating, State Police charged Craig N. Jones, 26, and Nairobi Wanamaker, 46, both of Smyrna, in the cases, Fournier said.

Jones and Wanamaker had been arrested by Smyrna Police on Jan. 3 for similar incidents in Smyrna.

On Jan. 10, State Police detectives with the Troop 3 Property Crimes Unit arrested Jones and Wanamaker on more than a dozen charges including burglary, theft, criminal trespassing and conspiracy, Fournier said.

They were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 on the new charges and remain in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $18,013 secured bond for Jones and $10,005 secured bond for Wanamaker while awaiting another court appearance.
