Smyrna High School faculty, staff and students honored Vietnam veterans and Gold Star Families at a morning event in the school's cafeteria April 12.
About 20 veterans attended and received lapel pins honoring their service in a war that lasted 16 years, from 1959 to 1975.
Mark Hetterly, Colonel, USAFR (Ret.), coordinated the event in conjunction with the school administration and Smyrna High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets who presented the colors and escorted veterans and their families to the cafeteria. The ceremony was followed by a reception.
"This wonderful ceremony not only honored our members but also underscored the connection of service among all generation of veterans," said Paul Davis, state council president, Vietnam Veterans of America. "These students are our future. We celebrate their service."
