Sen. Chris Coons, co-chair of the Law Enforcement Caucus, will welcome Georgetown Police Chief R. L. Hughes to share his thoughts on law enforcement with the Democratic Law Enforcement Steering Committee at 9 a.m. May 17.

“I am pleased that Chief Hughes will participate in this important conversation during Police Week,” Coons said. “We’ll talk about state and local law enforcement and cooperation with federal law enforcement agencies on the opioid crisis and how that’s impacting public health and public safety. I expect we will also discuss the pressures that President Trump’s immigration executive orders place on local law enforcement and ways that we should work together to support officers that will make America safer and stronger.”

Hughes is a 31-year law enforcement veteran, with 24 years with the Delaware State Police, five years with Department of Homeland Security and two years with the Georgetown Police Department.
