Here are three fun First State events to dive into this weekend.
1. Singer-songwriter John Gorka, along with multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams, will hang out in northern Delaware this weekend.
In 2010, Gorka released an album with his friends Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson under the name “Red Horse.” Getting high praise from critics and fans alike, it landed on the Billboard Folk charts and was one of the most played albums on folk radio.
Meanwhile, Campbell and Williams have excited many a venue, as both center-stage performers and assets to world-class acts. A shortlist of artists who’ve benefited from their talents, live and in studio, includes Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Hot Tuna, Sheryl Crow and more.
Gorka, Williams and Campbell will bring some musical heat to the Arden Gild Hall, 2126 The Highway, Arden at 8 p.m., Friday. COST $27 to $58. INFO ardenconcerts.com or 475-3126.
2. Firefly alum The Struts are coming back to the First State for the third time in under a year, returning to Dewey Beach where they last played during the summer of 2016.
Before getting too excited, bear in mind this show is for ages 21 or older.
A United Kingdom-bred band full of reckless swagger and hugely catchy hooks, the Struts are a tribute to the sweet and dirty spirit of glam to modern rock ‘n’ roll.
Opening for the band will be rising Michigan rockers Greta Van Fleet, touring with their debut EP, “Black Smoke Rising.”
From sing-along choruses to fiery guitar solos, Greta Van Fleet rounds up a highlight reel of rock ‘n’ roll heroics. These guys aren’t revivalists. Their desire is to breathe new life into a sound that’s been blasted out of car dashboards and living room stereos for decades.
The Struts and GVF will gig at the Bottle & Cork, 1807 Highway One, Dewey Beach at 7 p.m., Sunday. COST $30. INFO bottleandcorkdewey.com or 227-3888.
3. Glass Onion is one of Delaware’s top party bands.
Established in 2000, the gang performs covers of R&B dance to rock at venues throughout the state, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Their mix of popular tunes includes Jerry Lee Lewis and The Temptations to Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bruno Mars.
Glass Onion will perform at Harrington Raceway & Casino, 18500 S. Dupont Highway, Harrington at 9:30 p.m., Saturday. COST Free. INFO casino.harringtonraceway.com or (888) 887-5687.
