Victim of flash fire
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a reported accidental injury that occurred in Delmar today, June 6.
The incident occurred at the Delmar Speedway, located on Raceway Road, at 11:35 a.m., and the Delmar Volunteer Fire Company EMS responded to the scene. A 74-year-old male employee was injured during the incident and transported to Bay View Medical Center, in Baltimore, to be treated for second and third-degree burns to about 20 percent of his body.
The State Fire Marshal’s investigation determined that the injury occurred when an electric fuel pump used to transfer racing fuel caused a flash fire.
