UPDATE: A 72-year-old bicyclist involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer on June 15 has died as a result of his injuries.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash involving a bicyclist that occurred west of Millsboro.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, as a tractor-trailer operated by 65-year-old Chester Littleton, of Frankford, was traveling westbound on Laurel Road (Route 24) and approaching the intersection at Carey’s Camp Road. At the same time, 72-year-old Kenneth Tull, of Delmar, Maryland was riding a road bicycle southbound on Carey’s Camp Road approaching the intersection at Laurel Road. Laurel Road is a throughway and traffic on Carey’s Camp Road is controlled by a posted stop sign. The bicyclist failed to stop and yield and attempted to cross Laurel Road. The operator of the

The bicyclist failed to stop or yield and attempted to cross Laurel Road. The operator of the tractor-trailer activated his brakes and swerved left but could not avoid hitting the bicycle, from which Tull was thrown. 

Tull, who was wearing a helmet, was airlifted from the scene by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit and transported to Christiana Medical Center where he is currently in critical condition. Littleton, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured in the collision. Impairment was not a factor in this collision.

Both Laurel Road and Carey’s Camp Road were closed in the area of the crash for two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
