The Smile Place dental practice, 17 N. Main St., Smyrna, was officially welcomed aboard by the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held July 6

The practice opened in July 2015 and serves the needs of children in Southern Delaware.

The first thing children see when they enter The Smile Place are characters on the wallpaper, stuffed animals on the counter, a waiting room with an aquarium, a TV with cartoons and an arcade room.

In addition to Dr. Grace Liu, the 11-person staff includes dental assistants, hygienists and patient coordinators who treat about 60 children daily. Everyone in the practice wears a black outfit that may include cat ears, bug antennas, fairy wings and a tutu to put the children at ease. The tiara is reserved for Liu.

Liu’s experience as a Sunday school teacher helps her connect with her patients, 98 percent of whom are Medicaid-eligible.
