The crash happened at about 1:30 this morning, Tuesday, July 18 on Halltown Road (Route 8).

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Hartly woman early this morning.

State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said Melinda G. Foraker, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fournier said the incident took place around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 on Halltown Road (Route 8), just west of Hartly Road and Pearsons Corner.

Foraker was driving a 1998 Honda Civic west toward a slight curve, and apparently failed to negotiate the curve and went off the north side of the road. Her car hit a large pine tree, spun, hit a mailbox and another tree. The car bounced off the second tree before coming to rest on the west shoulder of the road.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, Fournier said.

This section of Halltown Road was closed for about four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
