Todd J. McKee, of Rehoboth Beach, died of drowning
UPDATE: In the case of the death of Todd J. McKee, the Delaware Division of Forensic Science has ruled the cause of death to be drowning.
Following his disappearance, a Gold Alert was issued for McKee. Delaware law defines a Gold Alert as the procedures used to aid in the identification and location of a disabled, over the age of 60, or suicidal missing person.
Foul play is not suspected in McKee's death. At this time, police do not plan to release further information.
UPDATE: Rehoboth Beach Police have canceled the Gold Alert for missing person Todd J. McKee, of Rehoboth Beach, whose body was found on the beach in the North Shores community, near Ocean Drive and Farview Road.
On Friday, July 14, around 5:45 a.m., members of the Rehoboth Beach Police, the Delaware State Police, and the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a body in the surf. Sussex County Paramedics arrived on scene and found the body of Todd J. McKee.
A forensic investigator from the Division of Forensic Science responded to the scene and the body was removed. A death investigation is being conducted by the Delaware State Police and the Division of Forensic Science.
At this time no foul play is suspected.
The family released this statement:
“We are devastated by the news that our beloved partner, son, and brother Todd’s body was found on a beach this morning. As we mourn the loss of this beautiful and kind man, we want to thank the Rehoboth Beach police, city and state officials and the community he so loved and adopted as his home, for helping to bring Todd back to us. We would also like to thank everyone who has reached out to support us during this difficult week. We ask for your continued prayers to give us strength as we grieve.”
A witness saw police responding to North Shores around 6:30 a.m. this morning, where a body was found along the shoreline. The witness said it appeared to have "washed up" and that it looked to be "a big guy."
Police would neither confirm nor deny the information and told Sussex Living to "wait for more information."
