The agenda for the Tuesday, Aug. 29 meeting includes an executive session, closed to the public, to “consider an employee disciplinary matter/personnel matter," and a motion to reconvene in public session to address an employee disciplinary matter/personnel matter.

Clayton Town Council has scheduled a special council meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m., after Police Chief Brian Hill was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The meeting will be held at Town Hall, 414 Main St.

Clayton Mayor Dave Letterman said Monday the special meeting has been posted on the town’s website, www.clayton.delaware.gov.

On the agenda is an executive session, closed to the public, to “consider an employee disciplinary matter/personnel matter.” However, the agenda also includes a motion to reconvene in public session to address an employee disciplinary matter/personnel matter.

“We on council take these charges very seriously and will move forward to look out for the town's best interest and to be fair and follow all guidelines in respect to all parties involved,” said Letterman.

Delaware State Police said Brian C. Hill, 47, of Dover, was stopped while driving Saturday, Aug. 12 on Sunnyside Road outside of Smyrna just after 10 p.m.

He was issued a traffic citation for failure to remain in a single lane, said Sgt. Richard Bratz.

A DUI investigation ensued and Hill was transported by troopers to Troop 9 in Odessa where Hill was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, Bratz said.

Hill couldn’t be reached for comment on Monday.
