The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, recently released the approved funding allocations for the annual formula based Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for the fiscal 2017 Local Solicitation.

The Dover Police Department was listed as a disparate entity along with the Smyrna Police Department and Kent County. The total amount awarded this year is $59,281.

The Dover Police Department will submit a joint application for the funds with the Smyrna Police Department and Kent County. However, because the Kent County structure does not contain a law enforcement agency, the total amount will be available for use by the Dover and Smyrna police.

Dover police will use $48,071 for COBAN in-car video and computer systems. Smyrna police will use $11,210 for evidence processing equipment and supplies.

The deadline for the joint application is Sept. 5 and will be submitted through the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Program’s Grants Management System electronically.
