On Monday, around 8:30 p.m., Rehoboth Beach Police responded to Sixth Street for a report of a verbal domestic altercation. Antonio Alfaro, 35, of Georgetown, agreed to leave the residence, however, due to his level of intoxication, police transported him to another location to meet a third party for a ride.
A short time later, a police officer observed Alfaro return to Sixth Street, enter a red Jeep Cherokee with Delaware registration and drive away without turning on his headlights. Alfaro was stopped as he exited Rehoboth Avenue onto State Route 1.
Following sobriety tests, Alfaro was taken into custody and transported to Beebe Healthcare for further analysis.
Police also learned that the red Jeep Cherokee Alfaro was operating was owned by the other party involved in the original police complaint on Sixth Street. Upon contacting them, it was found that Alfaro did not have permission to take the car.
Alfaro was arrested and charged with third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a felony, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and traffic offenses. He was later released on $3,210 unsecured bail to a sober co-signer.
