Two dogs were saved from a house fire in Laurel this morning.
Around 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, firefighters from the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by Blades, Seaford, Gumboro and Delmar Volunteer Fire Companies, were called to the 30000 block of Fire Tower Road in Laurel. They found heavy fire showing at a single-story, ranch-style home.
No injuries were reported; the occupants were not home at the time. However, two dogs were rescued from the home by neighbors and arriving firefighters. The home was equipped with working smoke detectors.
The fire was placed under control at about 10:45 a.m. and units cleared the scene just before 12:30 p.m.
Deputies from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire's origin and cause. Total damages are estimated at $75,000.
