Delaware State Police said no serious injuries were reported in crash on U.S. Route 13 at stoplight at entrance ramp for northbound Route 1
A car, a van and a school bus collided Wednesday afternoon just north of the Smyrna Rest Area, but no students were on the bus and no serious injuries were reported.
The collision happened at about 4:50 p.m., on U.S. Route 13 at the stoplight for the entrance ramp to northbound Route 1, just north of Smyrna Landing Road.
Delaware State Police said the driver of a Hyundai was attempting to turn left from northbound U.S. Route 13 onto the ramp entrance to northbound Route 1 on a green light.
A driver of a GMC van traveling south on U.S. Route 13 approaching the intersection ran the red light, police said. The GMC struck the Hyundai on the passenger side, pushing the Hyundai into a small school bus which had been stopped at the light on the ramp leading from Route 1 to U.S. Route 13.
The driver of the GMC van, a 73-year-old man from Middletown, was charged with failure to stop at a red light, police said. His name wasn't released.
