The Delaware State Police have arrested a Seaford man for drugs and traffic-related charges after a short pursuit that began in Oak Orchard.
The incident began around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, when a trooper on patrol spotted an Oldsmobile Aurora driving erratically. The trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop as the car turned into a nearby Royal Farms and then fled on Oak Orchard Road, made a U-turn in the River Mobile Home Park and drove north on Oak Orchard Road, across John J. Williams Highway (Route 24), before coming to a stop at the intersection of Mount Joy and Townsend Roads. The driver, 22-year-old Hashun A. Mitchell, of Seaford, was then taken into custody without any further incident.
Just prior to crossing over Route 24, Mitchell was observed throwing something out of his driver's side window, which was later located found to be 1,300 bags (9.1 grams) of heroin. A search of the Aurora also revealed 1.17 grams of marijuana.
Mitchell was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin, tampering with physical evidence, disregarding a police officer's signal, resisting arrest, driving under the influence of a drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic offenses. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $38,762 cash bond.
