Smyrna High School celebrates Homecoming this weekend as the football team battles undefeated Sussex Central for control of the Henlopen Conference Northern Division.
The Homecoming parade will be held Friday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m., starting at John Bassett Moore Intermediate School (the former high school) on Frazier Street, and turning north onto Main Street, continuing north through downtown Smyrna, across Glenwood Avenue, and ending at North Smyrna Elementary.
The parade will feature school and community groups, bands, the class floats and the Homecoming queen nominees.
The Smyrna High School Alumni Band is planning to march and welcomes all alumni. For more information, email Bruce Paulish firstname.lastname@example.org.
The football game will kick off Friday at 7 p.m., at Charles V. Williams Stadium at Smyrna High, as the 3-2 Smyrna Eagles take on the 5-0 Sussex Central Golden Knights. Both teams are 2-0 in the division, so the winner will gain the advantage in the race for the division title, with Polytech also at 2-0.
During halftime, a ceremony will be held to announce the winner of the class float competition and the Homecoming king and queen.
The Homecoming dance for Smyrna High students and guests will be held Saturday, Oct. 14 in the high school cafeteria.
