UPDATE: On Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7:08 p.m., 23-year-old Dimitri Rich succumbed his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Georgetown Police Department, with assistance of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on South DuPont Highway (Route 113) in Georgetown on Monday, Oct. 23.
Around 9:50 p.m., a 27-year-old Dagsboro woman was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound in the left lane of DuPont Highway, approaching College Park Drive, when 23-year-old Dimitri Rich, of Georgetown, walked into her path. Rich was struck by the Chevrolet and came to rest in the median; the Chevrolet driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene.
Rich was transported from the scene to Beebe Hospital with significant traumatic injuries.Once stabilized, he was transferred to Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
The Chevrolet operator sustained no injuries. Drug or alcohol involvement is not being considered a factor on her behalf.
Police are continuing their investigation into this incident. No charges have been filed at this time.
