ORIGINAL REPORT Nov. 2:

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that this morning’s house fire northwest of Clayton was arson.

The Townsend Fire Company responded shortly after 8 a.m. for a report of a house fire in the 300 block of Vandyke Greenspring Road near Caldwell Corner Road and the Maryland state line.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence and a barn, said Robert Fox, Chief Deputy Fire Marshal, New Castle Division.

The fire quickly went to three alarms, as several neighboring companies were called to help.

Deputy fire marshals were called to the scene and have determined that the fires of both the house and the barn were arson, Fox said.

The fire caused approximately $250,000 damage to the residence.

No injuries were reported.

The residents of the home are being assisted by the Red Cross of Delmarva.
