Incident occurred in Dagsboro area
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday in the Dagsboro area.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, as a 31-year-old Millsboro man was operating a 2008 Honda CRF 450 dirt bike northbound on the southbound shoulder of Dupont Boulevard (Route 113), approaching the exit driveway of Del-One Federal Credit Union. At the same time, a 1994 Buick Century, operated by a 46-year-old female from Frankford, was exiting the Del-One FCU parking lot, preparing to merge into the southbound travel lanes.
As the Buick was exiting, the Honda approached on the shoulder at a high rate of speed. In an effort to avoid the collision, the driver of the Honda attempted to lay the bike down but was unable to avoid a collision. The dirt bike came to rest off of the west side of the roadway while the operator came to rest in the southbound right lane.
The operator of the Buick was properly restrained. She was transported by EMS to Atlantic General Hospital, where she was admitted with minor injuries.
The operator of the dirt bike was transported by EMS to Beebe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the crash. Southbound Dupont Boulevard, south of Molly Field Road, was closed for about three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. No charges have been filed at this time.
