The graduates of the Correctional Employee Initial Training Academy Nov. 22 consisted of 15 correctional officers, one correctional counselor, one food service specialist, two physical plant maintenance mechanics, and one K-9 officer.

In a ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 22, the Delaware Department of Correction graduated and assigned 20 employees from its Correctional Employee Initial Training Academy.

The graduates took the oath of office and received their assignments in front of family, friends, and DOC officials, according to Kate Weber, DOC public information officer.

CEIT class #222 consisted of 15 correctional officers, one correctional counselor, one food service specialist, two physical plant maintenance mechanics, and one K-9 officer.

The ceremony featured remarks by DOC Deputy Commissioner Alan Grinstead, training staff, Chaplain Joe Kadtke, and inspirational words from class speaker Correctional Officer Bruce Muhammad Jr. It also included the presentation of the Outstanding Cadet award to Correctional Officer Bruce Muhammad Jr.

Members of CEIT class #222 completed 10 weeks of training, including hands-on and classroom sessions in a multitude of capacities. Areas of concentration included inmate supervision, weapons and chemical munitions, defensive tactics, emergency preparedness, report writing, substance abuse training, CPR, basic first aid, and inter-personal communication.

They will now join the ranks of more than 2,500 employees who uphold the department’s mission of protecting the public by supervising nearly 7,000 adult offenders in facilities throughout the state, Weber said.

Deputy Commissioner Alan Grinstead commended the graduates and provided words of encouragement as they begin their law enforcement career.

“During your career in Corrections, your success will not just be measured with numbers and statistics; it will be measured by your ability to guide and inspire those you interact with. We expect you to achieve great things and make an impact on the lives you touch," Grinstead said.

The instruction team for CEIT Class #222 consisted of Primary Instructor Bernell Williams, Instructor Brian Lewis, and Drill Instructors Antonie Ford and Vincent Lewis.
