Jason D. Shaffer was taken into custody Nov. 25

Milford police have arrested a Lewes man after it was learned he was wanted by the Sussex County Superior Court.

Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Masten said Jason D. Shaffer, 32, was taken into custody after he was stopped for a violation while riding a bicycle.

The incident took place Nov. 25 in the area of South Washington and Southeast Third streets.

Shaffer initially gave police a false name and then tried to run away after police determined he was not telling the truth, Masten said.

Shaffer was caught after a foot chase; a search of his person turned up an amount of drug paraphernalia.

He is charged with resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation and riding a bicycle on a public sidewalk.

Shaffer was ordered held at the Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $301 secured bail.
