Winners of the 2017 National Agricultural Proficiency Awards were announced Oct. 27, 2017, during the sixth general session at the 90th National Future Farmers of America Convention & Expo in Indianapolis.
Joshua Meixell, of the Smyrna FFA Chapter, was recognized for Landscape Management — Entrepreneurship/Placement.
Meixell works for his father’s landscaping company. For more than 25 clients, he installs and maintains lawns and landscapes throughout his state. His tasks have included mowing, weed and edge trimming, mulching, planting various types and sizes of plants and bushes, installing hardware features and snow removal.
Meixell hopes to earn a degree in civil engineering and eventually take over the family lawn care business with his brother. He is supported by his parents, Wendy and Walter Meixell; and his FFA advisers, Keith Shane, Jay Davis, Kellie Michaud and Sarah Bell. This award is sponsored by Briggs and Stratton Corporation Inc. and Tractor Supply Co.
