Delaware State Police said the incident occurred at about 8:38 p.m., on Bethel Church Road east of Fairview Avenue, northwest of Middletown, south of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

Five people were injured Friday night in a collision northwest of Middletown.

A 1997 Pontiac Grand Am driven by a 34-year-old Middletown woman was traveling west on Bethel Church Road, when she failed to negotiate a slight curve, crossed the double yellow center line and collided head on with a 2018 Ford Escape traveling east.

The Ford was driven by a 53-year-old Florida woman.

After the impact, both vehicles stopped in the eastbound lane of Bethel Church Road, facing north.

The driver of the Ford and two female passengers, ages 73 and 78, both of Middletown, were admitted to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac was admitted to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. A 1-year-old boy who was in the rear seat of the Pontiac was admitted to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children with serious injuries.

The investigation is continuing, and no charges have been filed at this time, police said.
