The Smyrna police have released more details about the collision happened Monday, April 9 at about 5:45 p.m., in the 200 block of East Glenwood Avenue, just west of U.S. Route 13.
One car flipped in a two-vehicle collision Monday, April 9 on Glenwood Avenue in Smyrna.
Smyrna police said the collision happened at about 5:45 p.m., in the 200 block of East Glenwood Avenue, just west of U.S. Route 13.
A 25-year-old Clayton woman was driving a Nissan Altima west on Glenwood Avenue. As she approached a vehicle turning onto Glenwood Avenue from the Smyrna Mart shopping center she attempted to illegally pass it while traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.
The Nissan struck the vehicle that had turned onto Glenwood Avenue, which caused the Nissan to overturn, coming to rest on its roof in the road.
The driver of the Nissan had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. She was cited for careless driving, police said.
The driver of the turning vehicle was not injured.
Police have not released the names of the drivers.
Citizens' Hose Company and American Legion Ambulance were among the crews responding to the emergency.
