Program at First Presbyterian Church is part of Smyrna's 250th Anniversary celebration
As a “signature event” for Smyrna’s 250th anniversary celebration, First Presbyterian Church is hosting a program of songs and a dramatic presentation about the American Revolution Sunday, June 24 at 7 p.m.
“Celebrating Smyrna’s Heritage: Songs of the America Revolution and a Tribute to Patriot Allen McLane” will be held at the church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, across from the firehouse.
The event is free, but tickets are required because of limited seating. For ticket information, call the church, 653-8000.
Kathy Rhodes and Kristin Jones, the Celestial Duo, will sing about the American Revolution, including the song created for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, “Allen McLane,” about the Smyrna patriot who was one of Gen. George Washington’s spies.
Then a short historical drama involving McLane and fellow Revolutionary War figure Richard Bassett of Dover will highlight the 40 years they served the state, the struggle for independence, their churches and their appointments in the new federal government.
A reception with a birthday cake for the town will follow the program.
