The Smyrna FFA Alumni organization welcomes new members including former FFA members, parents of current FFA members, and community members who want to support agriculture education.
The Smyrna FFA Alumni has had a very busy beginning to 2018. From fundraising efforts, to awarding scholarships and increasing membership, the group members are meeting their mission of promoting and supporting agriculture education.
In February the group hosted its first Dinner/Social Fundraiser at the lodge owned by Mark Wilson. Alumni members and guests who attended were served a catered BBQ dinner, with the highlight of the evening being the silent and live auction which raffled items donated by members and businesses throughout the community. The night ended with some dancing and was deemed a success with over $4,400 being raised. The officer team and planning committee thank everyone who made this night a success.
From the funds raised at the dinner social, as well as other fundraising efforts the association has conducted over the last two years, the alumni group was able to provide scholarships to prior FFA members. At the Smyrna FFA Banquet April 26, Tyler Meixell, Josh Meixell, Allison Wheatley, and Ashley Hurd were each awarded a $250 scholarship to be used for costs associated with furthering their education.
In March the FFA Alumni elected new officers for 2018-2019: President Deanna Dunning, Vice President Wade Dunning, Secretary Melissa Urian, Treasurer Michael Wheatley, and Advisor Jeremy Vannoy.
New members welcome
A continuing effort the alumni officer team is charged with is increasing membership. Membership to the Smyrna FFA Alumni is open to prior FFA members, parents of current FFA members, and community members who want to support agriculture education. Cost to become a member is $20 annually or $50 for three years. Membership forms can be found on the FFA Alumni Facebook page or a form request can be emailed to Deanna Dunning at Deanna.email@example.com.
The group is busy gearing up for fall activities and planning the next FFA Alumni Dinner/Social. If you are interested in being a part of this organization which supports and promotes agriculture education at the middle and high school level, or assisting with planning the events, please email Deanna Dunning at the address listed above, call (302) 270-2859 or contact the group on the Facebook page “Smyrna FFA Alumni.”
