Passenger on motorcycle in serious condition at Christiana Hospital

A Newark motorcyclist died in a collision with a car Sunday, Aug. 5 on U.S. Route 301 in Middletown.

At about 1 p.m., Middletown police responded to a collision involving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2014 Toyota Corolla on U.S. Route 301 at Doc Levinson Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old Newark man, was thrown from the motorcycle and died of his injuries, police said.

A passenger on the motorcycle, a 22-year-old Wilmington woman, was also thrown from the motorcycle. She was flown to Christina Hospital where she is in serious condition, police said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger of the motorcycle were wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car, age 63 of Warwick, Maryland, refused medical treatment.

After a preliminary investigation, police said the motorcyclist was traveling south on U.S. Route 301 when the driver of the car  attempted to make a left turn onto Doc Levinson Drive from northbound U.S. Route 301.

The collision occurred in the middle of the intersection.

U.S. Route 301 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
