VIDEO, PHOTOS & STORY -- Students learn about police work, the court system, emergency response and CPR along with discipline, leadership and teamwork

The Smyrna Police Department held the graduation ceremony Friday at John Bassett Moore Intermediate School for the 2018 Smyrna Junior Police Academy.

Sixteen cadets graduated from the program which emphasizes discipline, respect, teamwork and leadership while covering topics such as police work, handling emergencies, the court system and physical fitness. The cadets also earned their CPR certification.

The graduates are Cameron Decker, Nico George, Richard Dunning, River Jones, Trever Ogden, Roland Lomax, Peyton Harper, Cheyenne Miller, Jason McNatt, Breandan Connor, Caden Thomas, Giovanni George, Beau Sensenig, Addyson Whitaker, Chase James and Austin Foraker.

Instructors were Detective Michael Carrigan and Detective Jessica Weller with assistance from numerous members of the Smyrna Police Department and a variety of other first response departments and agencies.

Carrigan and Weller recognized one cadet each for outstanding performance during the academy: Cheyenne Miller and Breandan Connor.
